A unique mosaic of soils and grape varieties carefully selected from these micro-terroirs.
In the Bairrada region, the Quinta d’Aguieira wines have earned particular recognition, due to their great aging potential. It is easy to find, in the best wineries in the country, relics of this Estate sublimed by time. Born from the river bed, thousands of years ago, a deep-knowledge of these soils revealed the best that could be extracted from them, with the most well-adapted grape varieties. Touriga Nacional and Maria Gomes are the ones that define the personality of the wines created in this Estate.
A sincere respect for these lands has allowed us to create wines whose identity reflects their birthplace. They carry the excellence of Quinta d'Aguieira.
Quinta d’Aguieira has its past linked to the history of the Bairrada region.
The 1st Viscount of Aguieira was the Lord of this house in 1816. Later, in 1902, the estate was inherited by will by Manuel Homem de Mello da Câmara, who would to be the First Count of Águeda. By this noble man’s hands, the wines of
Quinta d'Aguieira would gain prestige.
A few decades later, António and Luís Guedes, the fourth generation of the family that founded Aveleda, discovered the enormous potential of this Estate. They decided to buy it in 1997, and here a journey of discovery, deep study and maturation begins.
António Azevedo Guedes, member of the fifth generation of the Guedes family, started his journey in Aveleda in 2002 dedicated to the viticulture of Quinta d’Aguieira.
It was under his guidance that the in-depth study of this terroir and the design of these
vines came to be defined. Two decades of study and dedication to a
dream, anchored in singularity, excellence, and time.
Freshness and Balance
Bairrada is a Portuguese wine region, intensely marked by its wines and gastronomy. The Atlantic influence brings freshness and balance to soils that vary from clay and limestone to sand. Bairrada's Apellation dates back to 1979, being widely recognized by the production of sparkling wines and for wines with great ageing potential. With 21 hectares, Quinta d'Aguieira is located in the North of this region. In this estate, the most relevant grape varieties are Maria Gomes and Touriga Nacional, that are uniquely expressed in each of the wines created.
Singularity
The location and characteristics of Quinta D'Aguieira give birth to wines with very particular qualities. In this place, marked by history, there is something that persists and protrudes: singularity and time. Each vineyard plot contains within itself a mosaic of micro-terroirs, closely studied. We look for the best adaptation and the best expression of each variety. And this is clear in every wine. But more than expression, timelessness and longevity are also sought – something that marks the history of the Quinta d’Aguieira wines. Making wines in Bairrada is a fantastic challenge, taken here to another level, since it’s something truly unique.
